Welcome Home Troops!

It's a big homecoming for many families in Eastern Carolina as 1,700 marines and sailors are returning from Afghanistan.

The marines and sailors are part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air stations New River and Cherry Point.

The troops will be making their way home for the next several days after a seven-month deployment that took the unit to the U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command areas of operations.

Some of these marines and sailors returning met their children for the first time.

The 22nd MEU was the first marine expeditionary unit to deploy with the MV-22b Osprey and was the first unit to introduce the aircraft into Afghanistan when it transferred its Opreys to forces in Camp Bastion.
