Sheriff: Parents Turn In 15-Year-Old Son For Shooting

A suspect in connection to a shooting over the weekend in Eastern Carolina has been turned in by his parents, according to lawmen.

The parents of the 15-year-old brought their son to the Onslow County Sheriff's Office in reference to a shooting that happened on August 30 on William Gurganus Road in the Angola area.

The victim in the incident was hit twice in the back by two bullets.

The Pender County juvenile reportedly told lawmen the victim had threatened to shoot him on several occasions and that the victim said he better have a gun the next time they met. Lawmen say when that happened, the juvenile said he had a gun, and he used it.

"ignorant behavior"? He was threatened with a gun. Why shouldn't he respond? Think before you write.

my heart and prayers are with the family. i know it had to be tough to turn in your own child. but you did what any decent, respectful, loving parent would do. you teach your children and you pray they do the right thing, it sounds as if he feared for his own life and reacted, he may have tried other option, we don't know the whole story, but i am praying for both families may GOD be with both. Remember he is still a child and still learning and what better lesson to learn than that if i do wrong my parents will do whats right

AWESOME parents for turning him in. Too bad they couldnt have done something before now to prevent this ignorant behavior from their child. Hopefully he will get a dose of realty from this.

I feel sorry for those parents and also admire them for doing the right thing. I know it had to be tough on them to turn in their son, but maybe, by doing so, it will make him a better adult! Now these are responsible parents!

Good for them! While not the best circumstances, the parents in this case stepped up and did the right thing. Trying to curtail their child's spiral in to a life of crime they did what must have been a hard thing to do. Tough love I think it's called. Anyone remember the documentary "Scared Straight"? This act reminds me of that. Well done parents!
