The death of a man on a jet ski remains under investigation, but the victim's name has been released.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says the man drowned Saturday near bear island. The man was found after an hour-long search.
The Jacksonville Daily News says the victim was 37-year-old Micheal Nemes, a police officer from Southampton, New York. The order of events leading to the man's death is under investigation, but officials noted the surf Nemes was in was dangerous because of swells from Hurricane Bill.
A body was found dead in the waters of Onslow County.
It happened Saturday afternoon near Bear Island.
Sheriff Ed Brown says a man was jet skiing and at some point came off the machine and drowned.
The Sheriff says the body was found along the shore.
The man had been missing for an hour before he was found.
The name of the person has not been released yet.
