Onslow County Highway Now Open After Accident

All lanes of an Onslow County highway are open again after an accident Tuesday morning that spilled diesel fuel.

The crash took place on Highway 258, south of Richlands.

Emergency Management officials say two westbound lanes of Highway 258 were closed for several hours as crews cleaned up a tractor trailer vs. car crash.

The crash happened on Highway 258 at Gregory Forks Rd. just before 7 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of the car had minor injuries, officials say, while the truck driver was not hurt.

Emergency management says the driver of the car fell asleep at the wheel and his vehicle struck the tractor trailer.

I too am surpised there were no major injuries. I drove by just after it happened, and people had pulled a guy out and had him laying on the road with a coat over his head. I honestly thought he was dead.

That wreck was so bad looking. The truck was leaking fuel all over the road & the car was absolutely totaled. It's hard for me to believe that the driver wasn't hurt badly. They were very lucky in that wreck. It looked bad. I drove by shortly after it happened. There was only a few volunteer firemen & a state highway patrolman. Thanks to the volunteer guys. They were handling the situation very well. Handling traffic & attending to the victims. Great job to them. We should all be thankful for our Volunteer Firefighters & EMS.
