Home Of The Brave Quilt Project

It's an organization that's keeping people busy stitch by stitch-- making quilts for families who have lost their loved ones at war.

The Home of the Brave Quilt Project works to provide warmth and comfort to grieving military families. Many of those families are from right here in eastern Carolina.

Since 2003, the North Carolina chapter has made 161 quilts for families of service members who have died -- most recently for the families of four National Guardsmen from the east who were killed. Organizers say with sadness -- lately, they cannot keep up with all the work due to so many casualties.

Nationwide, more than 2,900 quilts have been delivered to 2,600 families.

Specialist Robert Bittickers, one of the recent National Guardsmen killed, family will have two quilts delivered to their family on Friday.
