A 5-foot alligator observed in the surf and onshore along the southeastern North Carolina coast has been captured.
Topsail Police Chief Sam Gervase said police and firefighters captured the alligator, which had been spotted there on Wednesday early Thursday morning. The gator had also been seen on Tuesday at Surf City.
He said an officer saw the alligator, which hid in bushes in a residential area. The alligator was tied up and taken to the police department until N.C. Wildlife Commission officials arrived.
Officials said the commission would release the alligator elsewhere.
