Caretaker Charged With Child Abuse Turns Himself In

A Jacksonville man is behind bars, charged with breaking a babies arm, several ribs and causing the infant to bleed.

The Onslow County Sheriff's office charged 26 year-old Rashawn Cooper back in November with felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, conspiracy and resisting a public officer.

Cooper turned himself in Tuesday night.

Warrants say Cooper is accused of breaking several of the childs ribs, the child's left arm and causing retinal bleeding.

Warrants say the child was in Cooper's care at the time. He is in jail under a $30,000 bond.

TO DEE: Sounds like your cousin should have been locked up as well. But he was probably going upside her head as well, so it was better the baby then her. Give me a break! "30,000 Bond"...I gagged when I read that. I hope he dies in jail.

I can not even believe someone could do such a thing. This is so sad! I hope he spends the rest of his life in prison.. I hope the baby is okay.. This is sick and makes people not want this kind of care in there home. God be with this family.

I can think of several words to describe this S*O*B... oh, that's one of them. I have a cousin whose husband abused and caused the death of their 9 month old son. He got 25 years in prison and when he gets out he can't be around children AT ALL!!! This guy deserves just as much punishment. Was this child his? Where was the child's mother? Several questions unanswered.

what in the world could this little baby have done to make him that angry. Well at least he turned himself in. I pray for the baby and where was the mom and dad? Doesn't matter if he got a low bond - baby killers and child offenders do not last in jail -- the other inmates will take care of it. Did he call huggins and glover and get the SCLC to turn himself in or did he do it all by him self?

well, as usual i am just in shock. . .but then this happens everyday now. Why did the low life turn himself in? Pray the poor baby is doing ok. I just don't understand it. It is a sign of the last days people whether you want to believe it or not. It is so obvious that his coming is near and you all know what i am talking about. shootings, rapes, robbery, child abuse, bad economy. All adding up.

this guy IF guilty should hang. I see many of you are disgusted by him also and the low bond. Well, in NC child abusers are coddled. Dont believe me? Your state cares so littl about child abusers/ molesters that they hired a convicted and admitted felon child molester physician and put him in charege of a state hospital that has adults but also mentally ill vulnerable little girls, his victim of choice. The doctor was moved from Cherry hospital to Maury prison when it made headlines in June 07 but still your tax dollars pay him 175,000 per year. Please let your legislators know that you dont think the state should hire sex offenders with our money.

30,000? Thats all? for hurting an infant?
  • by Martha on Jul 8, 2009 at 08:46 PM
Only $30,000 bond???? He can be out in 30 minutes, back on the streets.....and we call that protecting an infant or child? Please set these bonds higher....if he is NOT the perpetrator, then maybe he will sing like a canary and we can lock up the real one!!!!!
