It's "luh-JURN'

It seems the folks around a North Carolina Marine Corps base have been mispronouncing its name for years.

The last name of the 13th commandant for whom the base is named is pronounced luh-JURN' and not luh-JUNE'.

Former Marine Patrick T. Brent is coming to the massive Marine base on the North Carolina coast Friday to give a class to local reporters on just how to say General John A. Lejeune's name. Brent says it is disrespectful to not pronounce the general's name properly.

Brent served with the 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment and is a friend of Lejeune family in Pointe Coupee Parish, La.

Hey Brent, Is the Lejune family worried about how it is pronounced , or are they just proud that their family member's name is on ONE OF if not THE BEST marine bases in the world. HAHA Brent their is a new job for you , teaching reporting pronunciation.

It's like non-native Eastern North Carolinians pronouncing Topsail Beach "TOP-SAIL" when every one who lives here knows it's pronounced "TOP-SUL."
