A personnel issue that led Jacksonville council to fire the city manager is leading to some harsh words between elected officials.
Tension was high and tempers flared at Tuesday nights Jacksonville city council meeting, the first since the former city manager, Kristoff Bauer's unexpected firing last week.
Council voted four to two to fire Bauer, citing personnel issues for his dismissal.
Jerome Willingham was one councilmember that voted to fire Bauer, and spoke out about it Tuesday night with some harsh words towards the mayor. "Mr Phillips promised us that he would counsel Mr. Bauer and ensure goals were met with the understanding failure could lead to termination. In doing that Mr. Phillips led Mr. Bauer past warnings signs and straight off a cliff. Phillips said, "I don't feel like there was a response to Mr. Willingham. He spoke his peace he got it out there."
Assistant city manager Ron Massey will now serve as interim city manager.
