We now know the name of the female victim who according to police was stabbed, and bound with tape, in a bizarre incident Monday night in Jacksonville.

WITN put in a public records request with the Jacksonville Police Department, where an incident report showed the victim as Emmery Pickett.

Pickett is currently at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police responded to Sybil Street Monday after a man was threatening to set himself on fire.

When they arrived, officers heard an explosion and saw the suspect engulfed in flames as he came out of a nearby shed.

Rodney Douglas died on Tuesday according to the medical examiners office officers aided in putting out the fire on the suspect, but witnesses told police there was still a woman inside the home, which was now on fire. They found Emmery Pickett inside.

I agree with Concerned Citizen. Why do we need to know this womans name? She has just been through a horrific incidient. What good does it do for WITN to request the victims name? How is that news? The news story should not include the victim's name...the story is about Rodney Douglas and his crime...it does not add to the story for us to know who he attacked. The fact that WITN had to request it is where I take fault with this. What were they hoping to uncover? No matter who she is or the type of person she is irrelevant. She is the victim and should be afforded courtesy and compassion...not sought after like a dog to a bone.

We dont need to know this womans name. She has been thru enough without everyone knowing her business. She did not break any laws. Just like a rape victims name is not released the victim of crimes should have to give the okay before there identity is released to the public.
