D.O.T. Proposes 4-Lane Highway 17 In Jones County

The Department of Transportation, along with state and federal environmental agencies, have selected a preferred route to four-lane Highway 17 in Jones County.

The 17 mile route, from north of Jacksonville to south of New Bern, is proposed to bypass both Maysville and Pollocksville on their west sides. It would also follow along the current highway route in between the two towns.

The DOT expects to issue its final environmental impact statement for the bypass next spring. A public hearing will also be held to give citizens a chance to review the final roadway design plans.

It's about time they realized the amount of traffic that goes back and forth in between New Bern and Jacksonville. This by-pass will help immensely! Not having to slow down to 25 and 35 will shorten driving time and encourage more people to go to each town and spend their money there. Hurry up and get this four lane done!!! We've been waiting long enough. Don't blame Purdue for this. This has been in the "planning" stage long before she even thought of becoming Governor. And, no, I'm not a supporter of Bev. But I am a supporter of new roads and fixing the current ones!

Bev Perdue is doing her best to get rid of as many state employees as she can to help balance the budget. Now their talking about building a four lane through the swamps. How does this help balance the budget. 17 has gone thru Jones Co for years in its present state. It can wait. One bumper sticker you wont see in 2012; Bev Perdue for Governor.

ARE you SERIOUS?? I am sorry but in this economic hardship the state is in they just need to be maintaining the roads we have and not wasting money on new roads.
