Jacksonville city council today fired its city manager.
Kristoff Bauer was let go during a closed meeting of city council Tuesday afternoon.
Four members of the city council asked for a closed session during a workshop budget meeting. Mayor Sammy Phillips says these four members decided for various reasons to terminate the city manager.
Phillips says "I think this is a very unwise decision by these council members at this time."
Bauer's contract with the city has nine months severance pay. Assistant city manager Ron Massey will temporarily assume Bauer's duties.
Bauer has headed Jacksonville city government since May 2006.
