Police are investigating a bizarre case in Jacksonville where a man apparently set himself on fire and a woman was found bound and stabbed in the home.
The Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill says Rodney Douglas died around 2:00 p.m.
Police say they got a call to 309 Sybil Street around midnight after a man was threatening to set himself on fire. When they arrived, officers heard an explosion and saw the suspect engulfed in flames as he came out of a nearby shed.
Officers aided in putting out the fire on the suspect, but witnesses told police there was still a woman inside the home, which was now on fire. They found the woman in the bathroom, stabbed and bound with tape.
Police say they also found the woman's two month old baby boy in the suspect's car, that was parked in front of the home. That baby was not harmed.
Douglas was taken to the Burn Center in Chapel Hill, while the woman is at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police say there is no further information her condition.
