Monday marks the official start of the 2009 Hurricane Season, the kick off to many months of closely monitoring mother nature.
Currently, forecasters are predicting a normal hurricane season, with four to seven hurricanes of which one to three are likely to be major storms.
Onslow County Emergency Management says it's already preparing for a major storm, getting supplies in place and practicing drills.
Residents along the coast are also preparing, as well as hoping for another quiet season.
Emergency management officials say you should have a hurricane kit or emergency preparedness kit ready all year long.
