Dozens of Onslow County employees who will soon be out of work gathered Thursday morning still visibly shocked by the news they'll soon be unemployed.
The rapid response meeting was put on by the Employment Securities Commission to help these displaced workers. Seventy-one positions will be cut including the elimination of two major programs; the Youth Services program and the In Home Aid program.
The aid program is part of Onslow County Senior Services while Youth Services helps curb juvenile crime in the area. The director of that program says she's concerned for the public's safety because it's being slashed.
Of the 71 positions cut, 47 were occupied, 20 of those are eligible for early retirement.
