Two Marine battalions will be redesignated during a ceremony at a North Carolina base.
Company A and Company B of the Marine Special Operations Advisor Group will be re-designated the 3rd and 4th Marine Special Operations Battalions at Camp Lejeune. After the ceremony, Lt. Col. Matthew Trollinger will take command of 3rd Battalion from Lt. Col. Christian L. Nicewarner.
The command is part of the U.S. Special Operations Command. It activated Feb. 24, 2006. Last year, U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command conducted 28 deployments to 13 countries,
including Afghanistan, and supported 10 major exercises. It also
started its own training course.
