Onslow Sheriff's Chief Investigator, Spokesman Headed To FBI

Onslow County's chief investigator is leaving the sheriff's office to become an FBI agent.

Inspector Rick Sutherland's last day is Wednesday. Sutherland will then head to Quantico to the FBI Academy and eventually become an agent stationed in Arizona.

Sutherland, who recently was given the title of inspector, has been the lead investigator on several recent high profile cases, including the murder of Maria Lauterbach. He's also been the department's chief spokesman to the news media.

Sutherland has been with the sheriff's office in Onslow County for the past 13 years.
