Deputy Pearson is one of 35 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty so far this year across the U.S.

Last year, 134 officers were killed, including 4 in North Carolina.

One of those killed while on duty last year, Onslow County Sheriffs Deputy Steve Boehm.

Next month, his friend and fellow Deputy Sergeant Mark Perrigo will bike more than 800 miles up to Washington D.C.

Perrigo is taking the trip to honor Boehm as part of police week.

Once in D.C., Deputy Boehm will be honored in several ceremonies and his name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

Perrigo says this long bike ride will be a test of endurance, but says Boehm's spirit will be with him during the ride.

19 other officers from across the region will join Sergeant Perrigo in the ride.

The ride begins in Hillsborough on May 5th.

This is so like Sgt. Mark Perrigo to honor Deputy Steve Boehm with a ride of this magnitude. What Sgt. Perrigo will not tell you, he is also honoring his friend, Tim, a fallen New York State Trooper, as well. Having known Sgt. Perrigo for years, I can attest to his good intentions. I would like for everyone to support this officer in his endeavors. Whether it is monetarily, in support of naming the field house in honor of Deputy Steve Boehm or just with thoughts and prayers for Sgt. Perrigo as he makes his trek to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, please make your intentions good. Law enforcement officers of Sgt. Perrigo's caliber are worth remembering!

Be strong guys. There are alot of citizens who so greatfully thank yall for what you do. During the bike ride if you become tired or discouraged, then look just above you and draw your strength from all those angels in uniforms above you..... AGAIN THANK YOU ALL PUBLIC SERVANTS FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!!!!

Steven C Boehm is a legend in this county. Loved by everyone and gave all of his love to his wife, four children, his community, the Onslow County Sheriff's Dept., and White Oak High School. Sgt. Perigo is honoring Steve with this test of faith and strength. I ask that the community to rally together to have the new field house at WOHS be dedicated in the honorable spirit and genuine love of Steve. If anyone had blood that ever ran true green and gold, it is Steve. He would rather be remembered on that football field then anywhere else. He never saw himself as a hero, but not only was he a hero to many people in this county, he is still a hero to our WOHS family. Please support this request made in loving memory of his wife. Always remembering and never forgetting 375.
