NEW INFO: Two Marines Killed In Car Crash

The Marine Corps has released information about the car crash that killed two Camp Lejeune Marines. The release follows:

MARINE CORPS BASE, CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Two Marines from Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit died in a single vehicle accident March 28, 2009, near Spartanburg, S.C.

Lance Cpl. Robert J. Legassie, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Pfc. James E. Writt, of West Moreland, Pa., were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner, Dwayne Corn.

Lagassie, the passenger, was a machine gunner with the unit. His awards include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Writt, the driver, was a rifleman with the unit. His awards include the Iraq Campaign Medial, Sea Service Deployment Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Private First Class James Edward Writt and Lance Corporal Robert Joseph Lagassie died in a car crash Saturday in South Carolina, according to the NBC affiliate there.

The two were assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard Camp Lejeune. The report said Writt lost control of his car and hit a tree in Spartanburg, South Carolina. They were headed back to Camp Lejeune.

    Jamie you are missed by so many! there is not a day that goes by that I don't thing of you. It doenst seem real that your really gone, I mean we was commenting on myspace the day befor you passed away talking about when your coming home to visit, I never woulda thought that would be my last time talking to you and I just never woulda thought at 21 God would be taking you but you are in a better place now your free from all the pain and hurt save me a spot in heaven!     Hap was a great person and very well known he will be very missed by all. i wish the best for his family and friends. hap was a great kid and he was like an older brother
