SBI Investigating Police Shooting

State police in North Carolina are investigating the shooting of a man by a Durham police officer.

Durham police said a man was being treated for life-threatening injuries at Duke University Hospital after being shot by a city police officer. Neither the names of the victim nor the officer were immediately released.

The officer shot a man shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday after responding to reports of shots fired in a neighborhood just off Interstate 85.

The State Bureau of Investigation was reviewing the shooting, which is standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting.

Well, I guess that is a better title than before. Thanks WITN.

Nice title WITN. Wral has more of the facts. Police shot the oxygen thief after he pulled a gun on them.

the title is uncalled for. the title makes it sound like the officer just shot someone just to do it. witn does not know the facts of what happened. give someone a chance to investigate before accusing people of doing wrong. the officer probably did everything right to protect himself or someone else

Some of you are too quick to jump to conclusions. I do not see anywhere in the story where the WITN staff writer is blaming any LEO for anything other than what was done. The WITN staff writer has not written anything questioning the morality of the shooting beyond the SBI's investigation, which follows standard procedure. Stop crucifying WITN staff writers for every story that comes out. I've seen some rather biased stories on this site, but this one is not one of them. Have a good day.

Why is the header in this story worded as if the two shootings are connected? The two cases are in no way relative to one another. These criminals bring it amongst themselves to prompt LEO's to use such force, and you--the media--seem out to crucify those who simply serve and protect the pulic interests in their community which these criminals seek to damage.

C'mon WITN, does it have to be written this way? Why is it that you always place the blame on the officer before the investigation is complete? How do you know that he was not fired upon first? They have to deal with enough hatred out there every time they set foot on the street, can't we show some appreciation here? Deadly force=Deadly force. I would not expect an officer being fired on to pull out his taser or pepper spray. Could you for once, try to be supportive of the police?
