Highway 17 Now Open Again

State troopers have reopened Highway 17 in Jones County, three hours after Thursday morning's charter bus crash.

The busy highway between Jacksonville and New Bern reopened shortly after 11:00 a.m., but traffic in the area was still reported slow going.

This morning's tour bus accident has closed U.S. 17 in Jones county, just north of Maysville.

The Department of Transportation says from the south take right onto Lee's Chapel Road, at the end of road take a left onto Pole Pocosin Road, at the end take a left onto White Oak River Road, follow to Maysville and US17.

Those traveling Highway 17 north should take the following detour: Take left onto White Oak River Road and follow till you take the right onto Pole Pocosin Road, follow till you take a right onto Lee?s Chapel Road, follow this till you come to U.S. 17.

    YOU STAND OUT IN THE COLD,IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, WITH CARS AND TRUCKS COMING RIGHT TOWARDS YOU AND REDIRECT TRAFFIC FOR THREE HOURS AND SEE IF YOU DON'T GET A LITTLE ANNOYED! SO SORRY THE OFFICERS DIDN'T PASS OUT MILK AND COOKIES FOR YOU AS YOU WERE BEING REDIRECTED! GIVE ME A BREAK! TOO BAD THERE ISN'T A CITATION FOR WHINNING!

    Anonymous,suck your lips in and don't pout because nobody held your hand through this ordeal.Who had time to post signs?? The authorities were trying to keep the traffic moving. Have you ever played follow the leader? So, follow the leader on the detours!

    At least you have directions posted. There was no help available this morning for people who are new to the area. No detour signs only police who wanted to curse at drivers and not offer directions!

    I was surprised that the local TV stations did not send a camera crew to the scene. Just hope all is okay
