A 7 month old baby drowned last night while deputies say the parents watched a movie in the other room.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says it happened at a home on Ben Williams Road, that's in the Southwest community.
Brown says the baby was left with its two year old sibling in the bathtub. The father told emergency personnel the 7-month old had been under water about eight minutes.
The father told investigators that friends were over and they were drinking and watching a movie. He says he and his wfie returned to the bathroom later to find that the baby had drowned.
The sheriff, who wouldn't release the name of the dead baby, says the death is still under investigation.

At approximately 8:45 P.M. Sunday, February 1, 2009, Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Ben Williams Road to investigate an infant drowning. Deputies arrived at the Ben Williams residence and discovered the father of the infant performing CPR on the drowned victim. The infant’s father told emergency personnel the 7-month old victim had been under the water about eight minutes. According to the father, friends were over and they were drinking and watching a movie. He said he put their two children, a two year old and the 7-month old in the bathtub to bathe. The father said when he returned the 7-month old was under the water. Death of the infant was pronounced at Onslow Memorial Hospital where the victim was taken by EMS transport.
Detectives of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the incident.
