A hunter, who was attacked by a bear Monday, has been released from the hospital.
Emergency workers used a Marine Corps rescue helicopter to evacuate Vince Cox out of the Hofmann Forest Monday.
Norman Bryson, assistant emergency management director, tells WITN News the attack happened around 1:30 p.m. He says two men were hunting and one of them shot the bear. The bear then attacked Cox. The other hunter made it out of the woods where he called for help on his cell phone.
Cox had severe lacerations to one of his legs. Pedro, a rescue helicopter from Cherry Point was brought in to take the victim to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
