3 Camp Lejeune Marines Killed In Afghanistan

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The Department of Defense announced today the death of three Camp Lejeune Marines who were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion (Forward), Marine Expeditionary Brigade Afghanistan, Regional Command Southwest.

Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, 34, of Stafford, Virginia, Lance Cpl. Brandon J. Garabrant, 19, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and Lance Cpl. Adam R. Wolff, 25, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died June 20, as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Stewart was a platoon sergeant assigned to 2nd CEB, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. He joined the Marine Corps in June 2004 and was promoted to staff sergeant Nov. 11, 2010.

Stewart deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from Sept. 2004 to March 2005, from March to Oct. of 2006 and from Sept. 2007 to April 2008. He also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from Oct. 2012 to April 2013 and most recently in April of 2014.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan 2 Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Garabrant was a combat engineer assigned to 2nd CEB, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. He joined the Marine Corps in March 2013 and was promoted to lance corporal Dec. 1, 2011.

Garabrant deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2014.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Wolff was a combat engineer assigned to 2nd CEB, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. He joined the Marine Corps in Dec. 2012 and was promoted to lance corporal Feb. 1, 2014.

Wolff deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2014.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The men died June 20, as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
