Residents in the town of Pinetops in Edgecombe County are reacting after a part time police officer there, Christopher Amyx, was named as a person of interest in the shooting death of Jonathan Schipper.

Schipper is the Mid-Atlantic Christian University student found dead in his Elizabeth City dorm over the weekend. Pinetops officials tell WITN Christopher Amyx worked 2 days a month there since may.

Brittany Creamer talked to residents about the latest developments. Sunday evening is when police were called to Mid-Atlantic Christian University where they found sophomore Jonathan Schipper dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The Elizabeth City Police Department says officers also found Christopher Amyx at the scene. Authorities say 23 year old Amyx, who was also a student at the university , is also an auxiliary police officer in Pinetops.

Now residents of Pinetops are concerned that Amyx has been identified as a person of interest.
"It makes you feel real nervous if they can be a part of something like that and their job is to protect you, " said concerned mother Charmaine McDowell. "It makes you feel like what type of stuff do they do when their off the clock? It should be the same as when they are on the clock their sworn officers."

Christopher and Johnathan were both great people, i loved them both very much. They both were a little...odd...but arent we all? MACU is a great college, and im still in a state of unbelief that this could of happened in such a God centered place. Lets just all remember this day to be one that something awful happened.

...and regarding "no police officer is trained to shoot in the leg or arm," police officers are trained to handle the situation as they deem necessary, based on the laws, guidelines and statutes that they are sworn to protect. As the police chief stated, they were able to charge Amyx with first degree murder once their investigation revealed that he wasn't telling the truth. None of us know the whole "store," as you put it. The victim, Amyx and God are the only ones who do know the whole story...and the victim isn't able to speak for himself.

I feel sorry for the friends of Amyx, because you have really no clue who he is. He was leading a double life, covering up things he didn't want people to know by telling you all lies. I hope that you can step back and see the truth for what it is--the truth, regardless of whether or not you think you knew him. Even Ted Bundy's friends didn't think he could be a serial killer, but he was. You don't really know anyone until you are with them 24/7. People wear masks sometimes. Just because you were his friend doesn't mean you really knew him, and I'm truly sorry that those around him didn't know who he really is.

Amyx is a good man. There is more to this story. He would never just shoot someone, especially since there wasn't anything going on with him and schipper. the news made up the "on going fued" bull. no one at MACU knows of anything going on with them, close friends of Amyx or Schippers. Something else happened. Even Schipper's friends say that. There are sketchy things, like the threats and one of schippers friends told me that he left eating at a professors house just to go to homework, which they said was very weird, normally he would never have done that. Just a few minutes after he got upstairs it happened, which shows there wasn't a huge argument. If Amyx really was getting threats, which I can definitely see being done by Schipper, and Schipper comes in his room, which is also odd because people don't just go in his room...and he comes at him with a knife...what do you think a trained Cop going to do? Makes sense to me...

I just pray for the staff & students at mid-Atlantic. I was a student when it was Roanoke Bible College...years ago. It is a WONDERFUL place doing God's work with humility & heart. It would be just like the Devil to use this very unique situation to overshadow so much greatness! My thoughts go out to all.

First of all nobody knows all the details yet but amyx. If it is true the subject came at him with a knife then that is a deadly force situation No police officer is trained to shoot in the leg or arm Dont make comments til you know the whole store. And in most situations a sworn police officer living on campus will be allowed to carry their weapon. And i like how somebody is allowed to tell how they feel when they always have warrants on them lol lol too funny You know who u are lol Not really the model citizen yourself lol The victims are both boys families my heart goes out to both of you during this difficult time

Why would someone trying to protect himself shoot someone in the forehead... Why not just walk away... Or shoot somewhere else like legs or arms.. No a murderer shoots to KILL right in the forehead, knowing who would be his backup he didnt even bother to run or leave the scene. He was so proud of his accomplishment.

Guns are not allowed at the university. So why did Amyx have 3 in his room and 1 in a safe? Did he feel he was immune from that rule? Murder is murder.

Honesty is not a profession. Honesty is inborne from character. If... shame on him.
