Woman Facing Charges For Using Stolen Checks

Halifax County lawmen charged a Roanoke Rapids woman for taking money from another person's checking account.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation on May 23 when a person reported someone had stolen money from their checking account.

Detectives say their investigation led them to issue charges against 45-year-old Leona Putney of Roanoke Rapids. The charges listed against her are one felony count larceny of checks, three felony counts forgery of an instrument, three felony counts of uttering a forged instrument and three counts of larceny.

Lawmen say they received information on Sunday that Putney was possibly hiding in the Doe Drive area of Garysburg. The Halifax County Sheriff's Office says Putney was located with the help of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Putney has a $25,000 bond and a court date of June 29.
