A school system here in Eastern Carolina closed early because too much rain is clogging up a local sewer system.
Tyrrell County Schools dismissed at noon Thursday.
Superintendent Mike Dunsmore says the town of Columbia's sewage system was reaching capacity due to the large amount of rain, so the town has asked the schools to close early.
It is estimated that Tyrrell County has had between seven and nine inches of rain since Monday.
