Two teenagers have been charged after an Elizabeth City State student was shot just off campus last night.
The university says around 8:00 p.m. they arrived at Williams Hall because of a fight call. A large crowd of people were seen standing in front of the gymnasium, but no fight was seen. They learned someone had been chased by several non-students toward the west side of campus, to Hoffler Street.
Minutes later campus police say a call came in that a person had been shot on Hoffler Street, which borders campus. The victim, later identified as an ECSU student, is now listed in stable condition.
Police got information on the suspect's vehicle and it was stopped near Griffin Hall, not far from where University Police is housed. Four people inside were detained for Elizabeth City police and questioned.
Rayshawn Baum and Kahari Hopson, both 17 and from Elizabeth City, have been charged with attempted first degree murder. The two are being held on $75,000 secured bonds.
Earlier this year another student at the university was wounded outside of Butler Hall, while a week before that shots were fired on campus but no one was hurt.
ECSU police say they will increase the number of officers patrolling campus through the week.
