Some areas in the east are still recovering from Hurricane Irene last year and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission was working Monday to help restore the rivers.
Wildlife officials caught a few hundred largemouth bass from a private lake to release in the Roanoake River in Plymouth. They were hoping to release about a thousand, but got about half that in Monday's catch.
While this is aimed at boosting ecotourism, Chad Thomas with Coastal Fisheries says it's also about rehabilitating our natural resources the most effective way possible.
Officials say the full grown bass vary from 6 inches to 12 inches long.
