Replaced Bridges To Open Wednesday

A road construction project several months in the making in Ahoskie will be completed Wednesday.

The DOT says the double bridge replacement project on Highway 13 at Stony Creek will be finished and open to traffic Wednesday. Officials will cut the ribbon on the new Highway 13 bridges at 1 p.m. After that, drivers can begin using the new thoroughfare.

The stimulus-funded $2.5 million project to replace the bridges built in 1934 started in June. Road work caused a five mile detour for drivers.

Shine: Stoney Creek bridge is between Ahoskie and Powellsville, before you get to the cemetary. The bridge on Hwy 11 headed toward Ahoskie I think is one that crosses the river that they've been working on for a year or more.

They have been working on the bridges on Hwy 11 between Oak City, Lewiston, going toward Ahoskie also. I think they opened yesterday or is this what they are calling the same project? It is no where near Ahoskie.

It makes me wish that the same people were working on the Cashie Bridge in Windsor! They replaced TWO bridges in Ahoskie and it seems as if the folks here in Windsor have been working on this one bridge forever!!!
