POLICE: Man Drowns While Trying To Retrieve Toy Boat


A man died this morning, after wading into the water to retrieve a remote controlled toy boat.

Edenton police say David Hassell of Edenton was pronounced dead at Vidant Chowan Hospital.

Around 10:30 a.m. police say they were called to Edenton Bay near South Granville and West Water Street where they began searching for the 49-year-old.

His body was found about 90 minutes later.

Police say the man's death is being listed as an accidental drowning and no criminal investigation is underway.
