Coast Guard Suspends Search For Missing Boater In Alligator River

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing man in the Alligator River.

Authorities say they received a call around noon Wednesday that a boat was sinking at Brier Hall point, near the entrance to the Albemarle Sound and that two people were in the water. One man swam to shore, but the other man, who is 32-years-old, is still missing.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from the Coast Guard Station in Elizabeth City along with several boats were used in the search that lasted about 8-1/2 hours. The search covered approximately 80 square miles.
