Hyde County Commissioners are hosting a public hearing this week about a proposed sales tax increase that officials say the citizens are asking for.
The proposal is to increase the sales tax by .25-cent, a quarter of a penny. The measure could be voted on during the May primary.
The public hearing on the proposal is at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Government Center in Swan Quarter and at Ocracoke School through the
electronic meeting system.
Several counties have increased their local sales tax rate. The beneficiary is often the public school system.
