A skilled nursing facility at one Eastern Carolina hospital is closing, throwing several dozen employees out of a job.
Vidant Chowan Hospital says it will close its extended-stay nursing care facility by June 10th. The hospital says 45 people work in the unit, 35 being full time employees.
The Edenton hospital says it sees a growing need for outpatient services, while skilled care is available at other locations in the community. Vidant Chowan says it was a very difficult decision to end the skilled nursing unit, which has been part of the hospital for over 50 years.
The hospital says it is working on placing as many employees as possible within the hospital or at other Vidant Health locations.
