Their job is to watch over prisons behind bars, but two guards at a private prison in our area are accused of taking bribes to get prisoners cell phones and cigarettes.
Rhonda Boyd and Raye Lynn Holley worked as correctional officers at Rivers Correctional Institution, a 1,450-bed prison in Winton, in Hertford County. An indictment alleges the two have been smuggling contraband into the prison since early 2011.
The private prison contracts with the Federal Bureau of Prisons to house federal inmates and detainees.
