Gates County Lab Crew Indicted On Animal Cruelty Charges

Four former lab workers captured on a video as they interacted with dogs, cats and rabbits at a testing lab in Gates County have been indicted on felony animal cruelty charges.

Gates County District Attorney Frank Parrish said Christine Clement and Tracy Small were indicted on two counts each of cruelty to animals, while Jessica Detty and Mary Ramsey were each indicted on five counts of the same charge. Parrish said the grand jury handed down the indictments Tuesday.

The charges follow the release of a videotape provided by an undercover PETA worker that showed animals being hit, kicked and thrown.

Messages left for the four workers were not immediately returned Wednesday.

PETA lab investigator Kathy Guillermo called it a groundbreaking case for animal rights.

Whoops, caught my own poor grammer! It should say "If you folks who think this is a frivolous case would please google the video....". My teachers would be very upset and my lack of proofreading!

Liz, I am disappointed (and shocked)in the Casey Anthony trial outcome. I think she is very guilty and got away with the murder of her precious little girl. I still think we need to step up and protect animals as well.

If you folks who think this is a frivolous case, please Google the video, and watch it, and you tell me if you think the actions of these people (and I use that term loosely) are legit. Trying to pry a cat's claws out of it's paws because it's scared to death, clinging on a cage? Kicking a dog? And sorry Liz, although I don't like the outcome of the Anthony case, that dog won't hunt here. There is actual proof of the abuse these animals suffered, IRREGARDLESS OF WHERE THE PROOF CAME FROM. I'm not a PETA person either, but I do know right and wrong.

It is a sad testament to our justice system that these criminals will probably serve prison time for kicking a dog but little Caylee Anthony was killed and thrown in a swamp and no one will serve one day.

I am so glad these people have been brought to justice. Hopefully, all were caught. I hate to hear of animal cruelty. The poor little things would never have escaped this horrible situation if the PETA group had not stepped in.

I bet you wouldn't be singing the same tune if it was your hunting dog that was being practically tortured. Why does it matter if PETA were the ones who uncovered this? The focus should be on the perpetrators.

It is now a felony for animal abuse, (Sophies Law) so let the people go to jail, and please no hot shot lawer or judge to help them out. this has got to stop world wide, and north carolina is behind other states on animal protection we need to let some of these (nice politicians know about it) so they can enforce stricter laws, god bless the animals
