Former ECU QB Gets Deferred Prosecution In Embezzlement Case

A former East Carolina University quarterback will have a clean criminal record if he stays out of trouble for the next year.

Patrick Pinkney was arrested in November, accused of embezzling nearly $4,200 from the Belk Department Store in Roanoke Rapids where he worked as an assistant manager.

In court Wednesday, Pinkney's case was placed on deferred prosecution for a period of 12 months. That means the charges will be dropped after 12 months if Pinkney maintains good behavior.

Court officials say Pinkney has repaid the money to Belk.

Pinkney was the starting quarterback for ECU from 2007 to 2009.
