One lane of a highway in Tyrrell County has been closed after a dump truck full of asphalt overturned and landed in a ditch.

Sheriff Darryl Liverman says 911 got the call around 12:30 p.m. about an accident on Highway 94, south of Columbia, at the intersection of Levels Road and Newlands Road.

The crash involved the dump truck and a passenger truck. The driver and a passenger in the truck were taken to Vidant Chowan Hospital, while the dump truck driver was checked at the scene.

The sheriff says it will be several hours before the dump truck and asphalt are removed. The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
