The state Department of Transportation says it's getting ready as there may be a chance of wintery weather passing through Eastern Carolina.
The D.O.T. says since light rain is forecasted before temperatures drop below freezing tonight, their crews will not brine highways, as it would be washed away.
But crews will be on standby in case slippery spots turn up tonight or tomorrow.
The D.O.T. says its crews have been fitting plows, calibrating spreaders and making sure both workers and equipment are ready for a winter event.
WITN's meteorologists say we can expect a stray raindrop or flurry Tuesday evening as temperatures will dip into the upper 20s.
