Court Date For Woman Connected To Officer Shooting

The woman charged in connection to the shooting of a Roanoke Rapids police officer is due in court Wednesday.

Renee Phillips, 43, is charged with accessory after the fact in the shooting of Roanoke Rapids Police Officer John Taylor. Taylor survived getting shot multiple times after pulling over a vehicle on I-95 in Halifax County in November.

Phillips was traveling with 38-year-old Michael Edgerton, who was behind the wheel of the car Officer Taylor pulled over. Police say Edgerton shot Taylor, and then Edgerton and Phillips went on the run. Edgerton fatally shot himself after a standoff with police. Phillips was arrested.
