Charges Filed In Fiery Tanker Accident

A fiery tanker crash this morning kept emergency personnel busy in one Eastern Carolina county.

State troopers say an empty liquid nitrogen tanker caught fire and burned after an accident on Highway 45 in Hyde County.

The crash happened around 8:50 a.m. The Highway Patrol says a pickup truck heading north crossed the center line in a curve, and as it spun around the oncoming tanker struck the pickup on the back left side. The pickup truck overturned on its side while the tanker caught fire.

Troopers have charged the pickup truck driver, David Perry of Colerain with exceeding safe speed and driving left of center. The Highway Patrol says fortunately there were just minor injuries in the crash.
