Body Found In Elizabeth City Dumpster


Elizabeth City Police are investigating after a body was found in a dumpster. At this time there are no signs of foul play.

Police say just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday the 911 center received a call in reference to an unresponsive male lying in a dumpster behind the Dollar tree at the Port Elizabeth Center located off of West Ehringhaus Street in Elizabeth City.

Emergency medical personnel found the body of 62-year-old Wilbert Wiggins of Trinkaloe Road in Elizabeth City in the dumpster and was pronounced dead.

Police say while there were no obvious signs of foul play, due to the unknown cause of death, an autopsy will be performed.

Anyone that may have seen Mr. Wiggins prior to 3:05pm on Thursday is asked to call the Elizabeth City Police Department at 335-4321.
