New Walmart Supercenter Could Have Home In Ahoskie

Low prices could be headed to one Eastern Carolina town, in the form of a new Walmart Supercenter.

The Ahoskie Town Council voted this week to annex property just off Highway 13 South, according to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald. The paper says Walmart is interested in building on the property.

The council also voted to rezone space for parking, which would also help a developer wanting to build a Walgreens in Ahoskie as well.

I hope they do bring a Walmart Supercenter to Ahoskie. I am tired of having to drive to Greenville to get the things I need.

It seems like people would be happy. Individuals have to leave town to go to a Supercenter somewhere else because the small store doesn't have what they need. Be happy for once.

fight it every chance you can. they opened up here in ec,ran all the small businesses under and then started jacking the prices up.Also they now carry less and less products all the people 36 hours so they don't have to pay benifits.

I remember when Nucor was coming to town. Oh we were going to have so many great advances. Even advertised that Waffle House was coming. Guess what. A year after Nucor opened, the gas stations started closing at 10PM and business dried up. I'll wait to see what actually comes. Notice the key word here (COULD).

I don't know much about how commercial development works, but I do find it particularly interesting that land was annexed for Walmart. I do not think this is a traditional practice, or is it?

Annomyous ---- Spent a long time there and who knows where the traffic comes from on Memorial Drive. ?? Ahoskie is like Tarboro in a sense. Tarboro restraurant business goes to Rocky Mount. Ahoskie restaurant business goes to Va. to eat at a nice place. There are plenty of fast food places and few sandwich shops, but it reminds me of Tarboro, they just wouldn't support a nice place.

I definitely agree with you. We desperately need a good American buffet restaurant. It needs to serve a good steak on the bar too. I am so sick of all the chinese, burger, and pizza joints. Forget fast food and bring in some good food that tastes home cooked.
