Danger At The Door

A woman is nursing cuts on her forearms after lawmen say a man forced his way into her home.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office says the woman answered a knock on the door Sunday, finding a man who was looking for work. He told the Hobgood woman, he needed money. The woman told the man, she didn't have any work and shut the door.

Lawmen say she answered a second knock on the door, and this time, the same man was armed with a knife and forced his way in the home. Detectives say the man was swinging the knife at her, cutting her forearms, and she was also struck in the back of the head.

The drama continued, lawmen say, as the woman ran down her hallway, throwing chairs to slow the suspect down. Lawmen say the man ran out of the back door of her home.

Lawmen tried to track down the suspect with a search dog but could not find him.

The victim was treated at Our Community Hospital and released.

Anyone with information on the home invasion is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (252) 583-4444 or the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at (252) 583-8051.

RealtyCheck-------thank you. I believe in guns--I am a member of the NRA. And, you best believe that if someone enters my house without permission---he or she is going down.

Do you people not pay attention to your surroundings? Don't you look out a window to see is at the door before you answer it? DAAAAAAAH. If you don't know them don't answer the door. Not in today's world.

Tammy: You're right, you COULD end up a statistic if you fought back. But remember,in a situation like that, even if you cooperate with the invader,he may STILL decide to kill you. Home invasion is a lethal threat to the victim. These vermin have NO RIGHT whatsoever to forcibly enter another person's home. They have NO RIGHT to take by force what another person has worked for...and NO RIGHT to threaten innocent life. I say: Fight back, fight hard and fight without mercy. A legally-owned firearm coupled with competent training and a resolute will to win goes a LONG way. Let the criminals worry if it's safe to go out at night for a change. Regards,C

Where did that happen in Washington? Do you know what road or neighborhood that was at? Would like to know to be on the lookout.

Its a shame that is has come to this. People are scared to open their doors, or stop to help someone that is broke down beside the road. I have always stopped to help and have never been scared, but am more wary now because people are just so crazy. What scares me the most is that I know I would have to fight back and would probably end up a statistic.

If I answer my door, it's because either my husband is home or my two german shepherds are answering the door with me. My boys don't like anything that they perceive as a weapon...

Got another warning people...an elderly lady here in Washington,NC got persuaded by a guy to come out in the yard so he could warn her about noise going on in the neighborhood, and while he was talking to her he was also on his cellphone...later on she found out that someone had gone into her home & ransacked it while she was outside.....Watch out & do NOT talk to people you do not know....These days lowlifes prey on the elderly...
