Judge Sworn In At Beaufort County Courthouse

A new Senior Resident Superior Court Judge was sworn in Thursday at the Beaufort County Courthouse.

Wayland Sermons, Jr. was appointed last month by Governor Perdue to fill the seat vacated by the retirement of Judge William Griffin.

Sermons will serve the Second Judicial District, which covers Beaufort, Martin, Washington, Tyrrell and Hyde counties.

Sermons says, "This makes me feel wonderful. The support I have gotten from everyone in my decision to seek this post has been overwhelming. I really, really thank everyone who has come out for me today and I fully intend to fulfill the obligations and uphold the trust to the best of my ability."
Sermons has been in private practice since 1980 in Beaufort County. He has been an approved Capital Defender by the Office of Indigent Defense Services since 2000.
