Hyde County Deputy Fired After Indictment

A Hyde County deputy sheriff has been fired after his indictment that he repeatedly tased two people.

The indictment says Deputy Mike Gaskill "willingly and feloniously restrained" Roland Cooper on April 8th of last year and assaulted him by repeatedly using a Taser.

The second case happened on June 20th, 2008. That indictment says Tyree Bond was assaulted when the deputy used a Taser on him for 24 seconds.

Gaskill, according to a statement from Sheriff David Mason, was a certified law enforcement officer with approximately three years experience.

Gaskill is facing two felonious restraint charges and two misdemeanor simple assault charges. His court date is September 11th.
