A prayer vigil has been scheduled for people to mourn and remember a county schools superintendent.
The prayer vigil will be held to remember Tony Stewart, the superintendent of Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Schools, who died this weekend. The vigil is at 2 p.m. Thursday Corinth Baptist Church. The church is located at 1035 U.S. Highway 17 South, Elizabeth City.
County school officials say there will be a register available at the location that will be sent to the Stewart family. The vigil is open to the public.
Stewart will buried Thursday in Virginia.
The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Board of Education says Superintendent Tony Stewart died in his sleep Saturday night. Stewart had been with the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County School System for nearly nine years.
Stewart was just days away from retirement, according to the Daily Advance. His last day was to be June 30.
School officials say Stewart had been recovering from a double bout of pneumonia, according to the Daily Advance.
Tony Stewart was 67 years old. No funeral plans have been announced.
