Police say the man who punched a driver whose car hit a child in Sharpsburg is being charged.
Michael Jones, age 21, is accused of punching the driver, Moses Blount, in the mouth, and also punching another bystander at the scene in the nose.
The child in the May 2nd accident is okay. The toddler was released from the hospital with five stitches, bumps and bruises. No charges are being filed against Blount.
Police say Blount was back out of a parking space at a Sharpsburg apartment complex when the child was hit.
A one-year-old child was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after being run over by a car.
Police say the driver, Moses Blount, was backing out of a parking space at the Pine Grove Apartments in Sharpsburg when he heard people shouting and running to his car.
Police say Blount got out of his car to find he had accidentally run over a one-year-old. Lawmen say Blount was then assaulted by a resident of the apartment complex. Police say they found a large crowd when they arrived on scene.
The child was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital by helicopter.
Late Sunday, WITN learned the toddler was released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital with five stitches and scrapes and bruises.
Sharpsburg is located between Rocky Mount and Wilson on Highway Highway 301. The town is located where Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson counties meet, and residents live in all three counties.
Sharpsburg police say the case is under investigation, with no charges filed at this time. The District Attorney's office will be working with police. The accident was handled by the NC Highway Patrol, Wilson County Sheriff's Office and Sharpsburg Police Department and the Sharpsburg Fire Department. The Sharpsburg Police Chief says charges are probable in the assault on Blount after the accident.
