Eastern North Carolina basked in sunshine and warm temperatures on Wednesday afternoon. Highs reached the lower 80s over most inland locations while coastal areas had highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. A strong cold front was pushing through central North Carolina Wednesday evening and will push off the coast early Thursday. Much colder air will follow the front from Thursday through the weekend. Showers will develop across western North Carolina late Thursday and spread across the remainder of the state on Friday. The weekend looks chilly with an ongoing risk of rain. Highs will stay in the upper 40s to middle 50s.
