Sen. Hagan Talks OLF

North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan is visiting northeastern North Carolina to discuss the Navy's search for a landing field.

Hagan will speak Friday with residents and community leaders from Camden, Curritick and Gates counties.

The Democratic lawmaker has opposed the construction of a landing field in the region. The Navy abandoned plans to build the strip in Washington County but is now considering three sites in Virginia and two sites in North Carolina -- one in Gates County and the other straddling Camden and Curritick Counties.

The proposed $200 million landing field would primarily serve as a practice area for fighter pilots based at Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach.

Gary: Would people be this upset over an airfield if it was for commuter traffic to Charlotte? In order for me to beleive that there are "abandoned" airfields I need you to give me hard facts about where they are and then you have a valid point. Until then, I do not know where an "abandoned" airfield is. You are definitely adamant about your feelings but I need facts, not opinions, and then you might get people to see your side of the issue better.

Yea, I went to North Carolina Public Schools in eastern NC, I am quite aware of where Delaware is, i think, .... haha, no pun intended. However, I dont quite believe that all Delawarians (if that is what you call them) are Democrats, much less everyone up north, and I believe that a vast majority of the coastal residents and property owners on the beaches of DE, and Northern States are extremely wealthy folks made up mostly of people from the Greater Washington DC Area, NY Businessmen, politicians, etc....This has nothing to do with me, or my beliefs, or being a democrat, or thoughts on an OLF in our area. I didnt pay close enough attention to your riddle about being like "up north", mostly because I'm not that small minded to care.... I was more concerned about the real issues at hand, not some lame comment about northern democrats. So pardon me if I missed your educated politcal statement's point on democrats that "im just like" from up North. A total waste of time post.

Sorry Gary, you do know that Delaware is "North" of us. Couldn't resist.

And, to VBush, in your words the opposing side's "liberal blather"..... what in the hell is so liberal about not wanting a virtual air craft carrier sitting in the middle of your home area. Has senseless military spending such as this over the last several years had any effect whatsoever on our economy or our own Gov't debt? Lets just add 200 million to that total and turn an otherwise beautiful area into a wasteland of jet exhaust. You should show your face at a local meeting for this OLF... you'd be run out within the first 5 minutes, conservative or not. I bet there are plenty of local conservatives and liberals in the area who would love for you to say that kind of useless BS to them.

Um, Gator.....yea I'm a Democrat...and I have zero problems with windmills, in fact, I'd be all about putting them wherever we need to put them. I wouldnt even have a problem with putting them off our OBX coastline, it wouldnt bother me to see them in the water. And its Delaware you speak of that doesnt want them off their coastline. Windmills are a heck of a lot less intrusive as jets screaming overhead at all hours of the nite scaring off wildlife and keeping folks awake. They could slam solar panels all over the place and I wouldnt care as well. Dont stereotype me with that one sided view "Rush" Republicans have of Democrats. I also own my own business and pay all my taxes without complaining about it. Not everyone thinks the same. I do know that the last thing we need to do is have the military waste more money on a landing strip....they wasted tons in Wash Co. and left thank God. Again, you'd feel different if it was in your backyard.

Air planes are obsolete. We now have missiles and drones. Stop wasting money on landing aircraft.

Gary you are a typical Democrat just like up North, "we need alternative energy, but don't put those ugly windmills in my area."

Earl, the Kinston field is still too close to have the desired effect. They need it to be dark for miles around. The strip in Kinston cannot provide the darkness required in the surrounding area.

As opposed to addressing this liberal blather any further, I will defer to my original post at the bottom of the page.

to snake oil... just another hard bangin repub who's story is worn out and spent. Let them build their field elsewhere. Would you like this in your backyard, with most of the noise happening after sunset each day Sunday thru Friday? 52 jobs... 52 civilian jobs... Not worth the ridiculous cost much less enviornmental costs. I dont get my info on, I read and listen. I also have a job, 15 years of self employment and a college degree. I dont sit on my A** all day and steam over the fact that repubs are no longer running the show, much less support each and everything the military chooses to do. I respect our soldiers, I have plenty in my family, but this is wasteful. There are plenty of air strips already built that are abandoned and could be modified that arent in our area but are within their practice and home base range. How bout we slam it right in your backyard then....
